Depression Care for Women

Depression and Low Mood Treatment for Women

Feeling flat isn’t the same as feeling fine.

Sometimes depression feels less like sadness and more like numbness, exhaustion or losing interest in the life you worked so hard to build. We provide private, personalized psychiatric care that considers your symptoms, medical history, medications, hormonal transitions and relevant laboratory findings when clinically appropriate.

Does This Feel Familiar?

Depression does not always look like sadness.

Sometimes it looks like continuing to meet every responsibility while quietly losing your connection to yourself.

You are doing everything expected of you, but you no longer feel present in your own life.

Things you once enjoyed now feel like obligations.

Ordinary tasks require more energy than they should.

You sleep, but rarely wake up feeling restored.

You feel disconnected, irritable or emotionally numb.

Everyone assumes you are managing because you continue to show up.

Your mood changed during pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause or another hormonal transition.

Recognizing yourself here does not establish a diagnosis. It may mean that a thoughtful psychiatric evaluation is worth considering.

Sometimes depression does not feel like sadness. It feels like nothing.

You may continue working, caring for others and keeping every commitment while privately feeling disconnected from the life around you.

A Closer Look

What a Comprehensive Depression Evaluation Includes

Your current experience

We discuss when your symptoms began, how they have changed and how they affect your work, relationships, sleep and daily functioning.

Psychiatric and treatment history

Previous diagnoses, medications, therapy experiences, family history and treatment responses are carefully reviewed.

Medical and hormonal history

Your medications, medical conditions, sleep, substance use, pregnancy history and hormonal transitions are considered as part of the complete picture.

Thoughtful diagnostic assessment

Validated screening tools may help measure symptom severity, but no single questionnaire determines your diagnosis or treatment plan. Other conditions that can present with depression are also considered.

Personal safety

We discuss any thoughts of self-harm, hopelessness or safety concerns so that the appropriate level of support can be recommended.

Beyond the Symptom

What Else Can Contribute to Low Mood and Fatigue?

Depression is a real psychiatric condition. Some symptoms can also overlap with medical conditions, medication effects, sleep problems, hormonal transitions or nutritional concerns. When your history suggests another possible contributor, targeted testing or coordination with another provider may be appropriate.

Thyroid conditions

Some thyroid conditions may contribute to fatigue, slowed thinking, weight changes and low mood.

Anemia and iron concerns

Anemia or iron deficiency may contribute to fatigue and difficulty concentrating in some patients.

Medication or substance effects

Prescription medications, alcohol, cannabis and other substances can sometimes affect mood, sleep, energy and motivation.

Sleep disruption

Chronic insomnia, inconsistent sleep and certain sleep disorders may intensify depressive symptoms.

Hormonal transitions

Pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopause can influence mood and should be considered as part of a comprehensive evaluation.

Laboratory testing is not required for every patient and does not diagnose depression. Testing is selected only when clinically appropriate. Outside laboratory fees are not included in the appointment fee.

Related concerns include Hormonal Mood Shifts, Insomnia and Fatigue and Anxiety Treatment.

Personalized Care

Treatment Based on Your Needs

Your treatment plan may include psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy or therapy recommendations, practical support for sleep and daily functioning, targeted testing when clinically appropriate, or coordination with another medical provider.

Medication is never automatic, and it is never ruled out when it may help. Every recommendation is discussed with you, including the expected benefits, possible risks and available alternatives.

Your progress is monitored over time so that treatment can be adjusted thoughtfully based on your response, concerns and goals.

Continuing care is available through Ongoing Medication Management.

Frequently Asked Questions About Depression Care

Does feeling emotionally numb mean I have depression?

Not necessarily. Emotional numbness, low energy and loss of interest can occur for different reasons. A psychiatric evaluation can help clarify your symptoms and determine appropriate next steps.

Do I need laboratory testing?

Not necessarily. Laboratory testing is recommended only when your history, symptoms or current treatment suggest that additional medical information may be helpful.

Do you prescribe antidepressant medication?

Medication may be considered when clinically appropriate. Prescribing decisions are made only after a complete evaluation and a discussion of the potential benefits, risks and alternatives.

Can therapy be part of my treatment?

Recommendations may include psychotherapy, supportive therapeutic work during psychiatric visits or coordination with a therapist, depending on your needs and treatment plan.

Do you accept insurance?

No. The Root Cause NP is a private-pay psychiatric practice and does not accept or bill insurance.

Is telehealth available?

Telehealth may be available where clinically and legally appropriate. Availability can be confirmed during your complimentary consultation.

What areas do you serve?
