What it is

Lab-informed care is integrated into a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment when clinically appropriate. We begin by reviewing your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, medications, sleep, daily functioning and available laboratory results.

Based on this information, relevant testing may be recommended to help identify medical conditions or physiological factors that could contribute to or overlap with psychiatric symptoms. Results are considered alongside your clinical history, symptoms, standard laboratory reference ranges and changes over time.

Laboratory testing does not diagnose ADHD, anxiety, depression or another psychiatric condition by itself. It provides additional information that may help guide a thoughtful and individualized treatment plan.

What we may review

  • Thyroid function

Testing may include TSH, free T4 or additional thyroid studies when supported by your symptoms and history.

  • Iron and nutrient status

CBC, ferritin, iron studies, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D or other relevant testing may be considered when clinically appropriate.

  • Metabolic health

Glucose, A1C, lipid levels, electrolytes, liver function and kidney function may be reviewed when relevant to your symptoms or medication plan.

  • Medication safety monitoring

Certain psychiatric medications require laboratory monitoring to support safe and appropriate treatment.

  • Hormonal and reproductive factors

Postpartum changes, menstrual patterns and perimenopause may be considered as part of the clinical picture. Additional testing or referral may be recommended when appropriate.

The exact tests recommended depend on your history, symptoms, medications and clinical needs. Every patient does not require the same laboratory panel.

Who it's for

This service may be appropriate for women experiencing persistent fatigue, mood changes, difficulty concentrating, sleep disruption or brain fog, particularly when symptoms have continued despite previous treatment.

It may also be helpful when medication monitoring is needed, when previous laboratory results require clinical review or when physical and psychiatric symptoms need to be considered together.

You may recognize yourself here if:

  • You continue to feel exhausted, unfocused or unlike yourself.
  • Your symptoms have continued despite previous treatment.
  • You have been told your laboratory results are normal, but you still do not feel well.
  • Your symptoms changed during postpartum or perimenopause.
  • You want relevant medical factors considered as part of your psychiatric care.
